How to Film a Moving Video Walkthrough for an Accurate Quote

A good walkthrough video takes a few minutes and gets you a quote based on what you actually own. Here's exactly how to film one.

A walkthrough video is the fastest way to show a mover what needs to move. Done well, it leads to an accurate quote and fewer surprises on moving day. Here's how to film one.

Before you hit record

  • Turn on the lights and open the blinds. Dim rooms are harder to read.
  • Open closet doors and storage areas you want included.
  • Decide what's not moving. If you're leaving or selling something, you can remove it from your list afterward.

While you film

  1. Walk slowly. Move about half your normal walking pace and pan smoothly.
  2. Hold your phone at chest height, pointed slightly down, so furniture fills the frame.
  3. Do one continuous walk through the home if you can. You can always send another clip for a room you missed.
  4. Pause briefly on large items like sofas, beds, dressers, and appliances.
  5. Include the garage, balcony and storage unit if anything there is coming with you.

What to avoid

  • Fast, shaky sweeps across a room.
  • Filming only close-ups of single items.
  • Skipping rooms because they "only have a few things." Small rooms add up.

Where to send it

You can film live in your browser with our scanner, or send the video by text or WhatsApp using Text to Move. Either way, our AI builds your item list and you can edit it before movers bid.

No time to film?

Type a short list instead, like "queen bed, sofa, dining table with 4 chairs, 15 boxes." Movers will bid on that. A video just helps make sure nothing gets missed.
